Prime Minister and Minister for iTaukei Affairs Honourable Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama has encouraged about 40 budding participants who holds chiefly statuses in the Nadroga-Navosa province to acquire good leadership qualities.
While addressing the participants at the opening of the Traditional Leadership Curriculum Programme for the Nadroga-Navosa province (Sauvaki ni Vanua) earlier this afternoon, PM Bainimarama said good leadership fostered good relationship among people in the village or community.
He added that the basic teachings of good leadership should begin from home.
When the family unit is well-looked after and managed, PM Bainimarama said traditional leaders would then be able to lead their clans and tribes well.
The Prime Minister said with the growing developments, it was also imperative for traditional leaders to ensure that our customs and traditions are maintained.
Meanwhile, the participants will go through a six weeks intensive training on traditional leadership.
The training at the Centre for Appropriate Technology Development in Nadave is being organised by the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs, iTaukei Affairs Board and the iTaukei Trust Fund Board.
