Strategies as Outlined in Roadmap
1. Reach consensus on the definition of the poor and their needs
A series of multi-stakeholder consultations in the Central, Western and Northern Divisions were conducted to facilitate the process to obtain consensus on what poverty means in the Fiji context and to identify the poor and their needs.
A draft definition was formulated and is currently vetted by relevant Government agencies before the final definition is presented to Cabinet for endorsement.
2. Review and develop poverty targeted policies
The unit has identified pro poor policies needing review, which will be substantiated by stakeholder consultation, surveys and data analysis.
3. Strengthen government pro poor policies
Focussed surveys and research will be conducted to ensure that poverty alleviation programmes target the poor in both the rural and urban areas.
