A phased-out development plan is vital if the people of Cakaudrove are to realise meaningful growth.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka made the comments while opening the Cakaudrove Provincial Council meeting at the village of Yaroi in Savusavu this morning.
The Prime Minister told leaders and district representatives that many citizens have accepted changes the People’s Coalition Government has implemented over the past eight months but many are still not satisfied.
He said the plans to develop Savusavu into a Blue Town is a lesson about the importance of planning and encouraged leaders to have a clear pathway of where they want to be in five years and 10 years thereafter.
He urged leaders to work together for the development of their province and to encourage their younger men and women to work the natural resources they own instead of moving abroad for work; an alternative pathway that has affected families and left a gap in village communities.
Leaders were also reminded to examine ways in which their people can start and grow business initiatives.
Prime Minister Rabuka also urged the men present, to look after the welfare of their women and children.
