Bua- Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama began his week- long tour of the Northern Division yesterday visiting affected areas and those impacted by Tropical Cyclone (TC) Ana and Yasa.
The Head of Government visited Bua College, Dama District School, Coboi Sanatan Primary School, Waibunabuna Primary School, Lekutu Secondary School, Nasarawaqa Primary School, Muanidevo Primary School, Maramarua District School and Nabala Secondary School. These schools are from the provinces of Bua and Macuata.
During his visit to the 9 schools the Prime Minister took the opportunity to encourage the students to “work hard” in school for a brighter future and for the betterment of their livelihoods.
Prime Minister Bainimarama also commended the work carried out by the RFMF Engineers in the comprehensive rebuilding of damaged schools following the two recent tropical cyclones. In a briefing earlier yesterday morning, the Prime Minister learnt that a total of 66 schools that were affected by Tropical Cyclone Ana and Yasa were also given the all-clear to resume classes after damages were assessed and clearance issued by the Ministry of Health & Medical Services officials on the ground.
The Prime Minister in his visits also handed over relief supplies such as food rations, blankets, mosquito nets, hygiene packs, towels, school sandals etc to the assist those students in boarding schools, whose homes were affected from TC Yasa and TC Ana.
The school management and students of the schools visited yesterday conveyed their gratitude to the Prime Minister for the timely government assistance which they said will boost the confidence of the students despite the current challenges faced early in the school year.
Prime Minister Bainimarama’s visit to the schools yesterday, together with continued rehabilitation works and distribution of relief supplies is in line with the government’s intent of providing quality education and better learning facilities for the children.
“Your resilience is an inspiration to all your fellow Fijians”, Prime Minister Bainimarama stated after concluding his first day of tour in the Northern division.
Meanwhile, the restoration of essential services continues to be the operational focus of rehabilitation progress in the Northern Division.
