Tailevu- We count on our police to protect us from crime, keep our roads and towns safe, and to help us when we have accidents or when a child is missing.
We count on them when we are threatened or afraid. We ask them to stand up to dangerous criminals, to resolve disputes and to keep a watchful eye on our communities, our children and our property.
This was the important message delivered by the Prime Minister Josaia Voreqe Bainimarama while opening the new Dawasamu Police Post in Tailevu North this morning.
The initial Dawasamu Police Post was damaged during Tropical Cyclone Winston in 2016.
The facility was built according to the new Fiji National Building Code that government established after the cyclone and it can withstand a Category 5 Cyclone.
“Policing is important work, and we as a people show how important it is to us by building police facilities that are strong, modern and functional,” Prime Minister said.
“The condition of our police facilities is a reflection on us as a society and the value we place on the work we call on our police to do. Today is a celebration for the people of Dawasamu as we dedicate this building to the future of this community and it is a celebration of the professionalism of our police and of the resilience of the Fijian people.
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to acknowledge the hard work and sacrifice by our police officers in helping Fiji contain the COVID-19 corona virus.
Divisional Police Commander Central Viliame Sovalevu, on behalf of the Fiji Police Force, thanked the Prime Minister and his government for funding the construction of the new police post.
Mr Sovalevu also assured the Prime Minister that the police post will serve the community with diligence and also promote peace and security among the people of Dawasamu.
