The Opening of MSAF Office in Nabouwalu, Bua

The Honourable Prime Minister Mr. Voreqe Bainimarama began his one week Northern tour yesterday with the opening of the new Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) office at Nabouwalu, Bua.

As Fiji has undertaken the leadership role at the forefront of global forums which signifies the efforts that the country have been advocating particularly on the conservation of our environment and natural resources, the Hon. Prime Minister was pleased with the establishment of the new MSAF office as it aligned with the commitments that Fiji made during the Oceans conference in New York.

With the increased trade and commercial activities anticipated for Vanua Levu both locally and internationally, the new office will allow MSAF to better serve existing and future maritime industry stakeholders operating in the vicinity of Bua, including those that maybe travelling to and from other parts of Vanua Levu.
The Hon. Prime Minister also said that it will also strengthen the efforts aimed at the protection of marine environment which is an issue that is part of the Government’s development priorities.

“The new office would also ensure greater compliance of our ships including improved safety of our seafarers and the travelling public. Indeed, this new establishment would have a direct boost to the coordination of maritime travel, trade facilitation and sustainable ocean practices in Bua,”said the Hon. Prime Minister Mr Voreqe Bainimarama.
