The Fiji National University (FNU) today celebrated the inauguration of its state-of-the-art maritime learning centre, marking a significant step towards bridging the longstanding gap in formal education, research, and development in the maritime industry.
The new Pacific Centre for Maritime Studies further reaffirms the FNU and Government’s vision of empowering the people of Fiji through unity.
The centre will provide the FNU students with cutting-edge programmes and courses that reflect the needs of the maritime world of today, with a focus on sustainability, safety, and the growth of our Pacific’s Blue economy.
“Today marks a new chapter for the Fiji National University and for our nation. To the students who will walk through these doors, this is your opportunity to shape the future of the Pacific, particularly its maritime nature and significance,” Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka said while officiating at the event.
“Our islands, communities, and economies have been shaped by the ocean that surrounds and connects us.
“This new building is not just a gift for today, it is our collective legacy for the students of tomorrow.”
To the maritime students, the Prime Minister urged them to take full advantage of the knowledge, expertise, and experience that the centre will offer.
“The maritime world is waiting for your leadership, creativity, and passion. I challenge you today to make significant contributions to the development of the sciences and cultures of this great Blue Continent called the Pacific Ocean,” added the PM.
“I take this moment to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has worked tirelessly to make this centre a reality – the staff of FNU, to our government partners, industry leaders, and all those who have contributed to this achievement.
“Together, we will navigate the future of the Pacific, one student, one class, one innovation, one breakthrough at a time.”
The event marks a new chapter in the maritime education, creating significant contributions to the global maritime industry.
