Prime Minister and Minister for Public Enterprises Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka today officiated the formal handover of the NASA facility from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) to Fiji Airports Limited.
The event marked another significant milestone in the transformation of our nation’s aviation infrastructure by Fiji Airports Limited.
NASA has been managed by the RFMF for military operations since 1987, following its acquisition under the Acquisition of Land Act, to support the protection of Nadi Airport and the training of military officers.
In his official remarks, PM Rabuka highlighted that the land will now support Fiji Airports’ long-term master plan, aimed at enhancing the nation’s aviation sector.
“Today, we’re handing back this piece of terrain to the original users, the Fiji Airports Limited to support the development of its master plan,” said the PM.
“As we celebrate this event today, we also acknowledge the traditional owners of the land, past, present chiefs and emerging chiefs. We acknowledge their role in looking after the land upon which not only Nadi Airport is built, but upon which Fiji is built.”
“We wish Airports Fiji Limited well and we look forward to the development of the master plan, and the completion of the building of that plan.”
AFL chief executive Officer Mr Mesake Nawari said today’s handover reflects a commitment to the future of Fiji’s international gateway.
“The decision to have NASA back under the stewardship of Fiji Airports is part of our broader commitment to enhance travel experience and local community growth,” said Mr Nawari.
“The redevelopment of facilities like NASA will be an important step in modernising the services and amenities available at and near our airport, improving the overall experience for all.
“Fiji Airports is committed to providing world class infrastructure and services that ensure safe, efficient and comfortable air travel for all Fijians and our international visitors,” he concluded.
