PRIME MINISTER RABUKA OFFICIATES THE OPENING OF THE ITAUKEI PLAZA DUA AND LAUNCHES QELEMAROROI HOLDINGS-(24-07-2025)

Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka officiated at the opening of the Taukei Plaza Dua and the launch of Qelemaroroi Holdings in Lautoka, describing the event as an important moment in Fiji’s progress toward indigenous economic empowerment.
Speaking in the iTaukei language, the Prime Minister challenged the widely held belief that “Fijians are resource-rich but cash-poor.”
He said that this phrase is a myth, in that indigenous Fijians are well-positioned, capable, and ready to lead their own economic journeys.
He stated that the opening of the Taukei Plaza Dua is more than a commercial milestone; for it is a symbolic pathway from dependence to self-determination, from waiting to owning, and from simply owning resources to using them wisely.
Prime Minister Rabuka asserted that the initiative reflects a new mindset—one that embraces both tradition and transformation.
Developments such as these, he added, are not only infrastructure projects, but they are legacy-building moments that future generations will look back on with pride.
Prime Minister Rabuka shared that the Fijian community need to continue moving forward with confidence, innovation, and a strategic vision for sustainable prosperity.”
He further commended the leadership and vision of the iTaukei Land Trust Board (TLTB), in particular its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Solomone Nata, and the Fiji Indigenous Business Council, for laying the groundwork that made this initiative possible.
In his address, Mr. Nata described the occasion as a proud milestone for TLTB and for landowners in Fiji. He said the event underscored the growing realisation among the iTaukei community that they can own and develop properties in key urban areas.
“TLTB is leading by example, paving the way for landowning units (LOUs) and iTaukei individuals to understand that they can operate successful businesses anywhere in the country.”
He expressed the need for landowners to acquire long-term thinking in the management of indigenous resources.
Mr Nata also called on communities to remain united and strategic, reminding them that short-term gain should never come at the expense of long-term prosperity and stability.
