Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka today officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the multi-million dollar Koro Development Project, a transformative investment set to redefine Suva’s skyline and position Fiji as a commercial and cultural leader in the Pacific.
Dubbed as a beacon of transformation, the Koro Development Project at the Kalabu Tax-Free Zone in Valelevu, is aligned with the national blueprint for progress described in the Fiji National Development Plan (NDP) 2025-2029, underpinned by the long-term Vision 2050.
While delivering his remarks, the Prime Minister acknowledged the birth of the project which is a brainchild of Ratu Qativi Rob Cromb, a proud son of Fiji whose commitment to his homeland aligns closely with the national agenda for economic growth, sustainable urban renewal, and enhanced global competitiveness.
“The Koro Development Project – ‘Koro’, meaning ‘village’, will stand not just as a precinct, but as a powerful expression of who we are and what we believe in. It will be a beacon of transformation. A symbol of sustainability and a proud marker of our national competitiveness on the global stage.”
“Koro will create jobs now and in the future, attract global partnerships, revitalise Suva’s cultural fabric, and project Fiji’s name proudly to the world.”
About 15,000 people are expected to be employed once the project is completed.
Prime Minister Rabuka
highlighted recent reforms aimed at improving Fiji’s investment climate, including the removal of business licence requirements and new investor protection measures to boost private and public investment to 15% of GDP.
“The Coalition Government will continue its commitment to strengthen private sector investor confidence by creating a more conducive ecosystem to stimulate and vigorously increase private sector participation in the economy,” he added.
“It will also continue to undertake further reforms to address impediments to private sector participation in the economy including reviewing the regulatory framework, reducing bureaucracy, eliminating red tape and reducing cost of doing business in Fiji and improve access to finance, infrastructure, transport and logistics, ICT and utilities to improve the business environment.”
The Prime Minister commended the project’s partners – Ignite Architects, Architects Pacific, Stratum Group, municipal councils, engineers, and many others, for their role in realising this vision.
“This is more than a development. It is the planting of a modern-day ‘Koro’ – a hub for community, commerce, and innovation. It stands as Fiji’s message to the world: we are open for investment, innovation, and inclusive prosperity,”Prime Minister Rabuka concluded.
The project will see the construction of food market and supermarkets, office spaces, dining and retail, entertainment, hotel and medical childcare, to mention just a few.
