Members of the Fijian diaspora came together in the heart of New York City this evening to celebrate Fiji’s National Day.
Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka was the Chief Guest at the occasion which drew Fijians from across the United States and Canada, including communities from New Jersey, Washington, and the West Coast.
While delivering his address, Prime Minister Rabuka expressed gratitude to those in attendance and paid tribute to their resilience, describing them as good ambassadors of our culture, values, and good will.
At the outset, the Prime Minister reflected on Fiji’s journey since independence.
He briefed the Fijian community about his attendance at the UNGA80, highlighting the importance of amplifying the voice of Fiji and the Pacific on the world stage.
He emphasised Fiji’s vision of peace, inclusivity, and sustainable development, reaffirming the government’s commitment to working closely with its diaspora through a new diaspora strategy.
The evening was marked with a traditional welcome ceremony, cultural performances, feasting and music, celebrating Fiji’s proud history, culture and tradition.
