Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka received a farewell courtesy call from the outgoing United States Ambassador to Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga and Tuvalu Her Excellency Marie Damour, at his office today.
The Prime Minister, on behalf of the Government and the people of Fiji, conveyed appreciation to Ambassador Damour for her successful three-year tenure and for the strengthened partnership between Fiji and the United States during her service.
The meeting reflected the positive trajectory of cooperation across key sectors over the past years.
Both sides acknowledged the close working relationship between the Fiji Government, cabinet ministers and the U.S. Embassy, noting significant progress achieved through shared commitment, transparency, and continuous dialogue.

Visa bond and overstay matters involving Fijian nationals, including issues related to Fiji-born American citizens and broader security considerations.
Ambassador Damour provided clarity on the structure of U.S. immigration policies, noting that these are directed at the federal level and implemented by the State Department.
Governance and development cooperation, with consideration of ongoing opportunities under U.S. programmes, including the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact for infrastructure development.
Economic cooperation, including the forthcoming trade and investment conference in Honolulu highlighting Fiji and other Pacific Island countries and aimed at further expanding regional economic partnerships.
Defence and security collaboration, including discussions on U.S. Marines’ acquisition of boats and potential support for Fiji in strengthening disaster response and cyclone rehabilitation capabilities.
Energy collaboration, particularly on waste-to-energy initiatives and renewable energy opportunities aligned with Fiji’s long-term sustainability goals.
Regional sensitivities surrounding nuclear energy, including considerations related to small modular nuclear reactors for maritime propulsion and the importance of comprehensive environmental safeguards for affected communities.
