Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka received a courtesy call from the newly appointed New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji, His Excellency Greg Andrews, in his office yesterday.
The Prime Minister warmly welcomed High Commissioner Andrews to Fiji and congratulated him on his appointment, noting his extensive diplomatic experience. The meeting reaffirmed the close and enduring relationship between Fiji and New Zealand.
New Zealand was among the first countries to establish diplomatic relations with Fiji following its independence in 1970.
The relationship was elevated to new heights with the signing of the Duavata Partnership in 2022, which has delivered practical outcomes across priority sectors including in trade and investment, health, policing, and climate resilience.
Discussions highlighted key areas of mutual interest including trade, investment and economic cooperation, security, and regional cooperation.
New Zealand remains one of Fiji’s key trading partners and a major tourism source market. The Prime Minister reaffirmed Fiji’s commitment to growing two-way trade to NZ$2 billion by 2030.
In his remarks, High Commissioner Andrews thanked Hon. Rabuka for the opportunity to meet, stating that he looks forward to further deepening Fiji and New Zealand’s friendship and cooperation for the mutual benefit of both nations and their peoples.
