Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka has given a strong assurance that all ethnic communities in Fiji are safe, protected and free to pursue their economic interests under his leadership, particularly in establishing and growing businesses across the country.
Speaking at the opening of the George Shiu Raj Complex in Rakiraki on Friday (13-12-25), the Prime Minister addressed recent discussions and concerns about the possible re-emergence of iTaukei nationalism, stressing that there is nothing for any community to fear.
“I want to assure all ethnic groups in Fiji that we will look after your interests, you do not have anything to worry about as long as we are in control today, and you can see right before your eyes the fruits of that cooperation,” Hon. Rabuka said.
The Prime Minister reaffirmed that the Coalition Government is committed to protecting the rights and interests of all communities, emphasising that Fiji belongs to everyone who calls it home.
“All ethnic communities not only have the right to live in Fiji, they also have the right to pursue their interests in business and commerce, this government will protect the interests of all different ethnic communities in Fiji,” he said.
Prime Minister Rabuka highlighted the concept of cooperation as a key pillar of national unity and economic growth.
“The concept of cooperation should not be limited to land alone; it can be embraced by every private and rural-based entities across our islands. By working together in this spirit, we can celebrate the successes born of cooperation, loyalty, dedication, and love for one another — the true message of Christmas,” Hon. Rabuka said.
The Prime Minister cited the success of Ra businessman George Shiu Raj as a clear example of what can be achieved when communities work together in trust and mutual respect.
Hon. Rabuka highlighted that the newly opened George Shiu Raj Complex will play a vital role in expanding economic growth and shared development across Ra and Rakiraki, while strengthening regional development in the Western Division.
“This is about unlocking opportunities, stimulating economic activity and advancing the shared aspirations of the people of Ra and of all Fijians,” Prime Minister Rabuka said.
“I must commend the foresight and commitment displayed by Mr. George Shiu Raj in advancing our collective vision for sustained regional development and prosperity,” he added.
Prime Minister Rabuka also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to decentralising economic opportunities beyond major urban centres, saying centres like Nalawa have the potential to become key business hubs.
“When businesses thrive here, they generate jobs, increase household incomes, and support the wellbeing of families in the wider region, a thriving Ra means a stronger, more resilient Fiji,” Hon. Rabuka added.
The $6 million George Shiu Raj complex is located at the Waimicia business centre on the Kings Road in Nalawa district. It houses several key businesses for the G.S. Raj Investment Group, including Shop Plus Supermarket, Foodies Delight Restaurant and Dough Dreams Bakery.
The opening of the George Shiu Raj Complex was described as a symbol of inclusive development and economic opportunity, reinforcing the government’s message that Fiji remains a safe and welcoming place for all communities to invest, work and prosper together.
