The Assistant Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Hon Sakiusa Tubuna, this morning officiated the Nakasi High School prize-giving ceremony and stressed the importance of education, dedication, and perseverance in shaping the future of our youths.
Addressing the guests, teachers and students, Hon. Tubuna highlighted the Coalition Government’s ongoing commitment to education.
“This is also the stance of your Government and is evident in the current 2024-2025 budget allocates $784.1 million to the Ministry of Education; an additional $16 million compared to the 2023-2024 budget,” said Hon. Tubuna.
“Government’s investment in the education sector is an investment in the future of our nation and it is through these allocations and initiatives the government is ensuring that young people are equipped with the tools they need to succeed and thrive in an increasingly competitive world.”
The Assistant Minister praised Nakasi High School for its academic and extracurricular achievements especially given its size.
Describing the school as a ‘gem’ amongst larger institutions, Hon. Tubuna said their achievements were the result of the hard work and dedication of both students and staff further acknowledging the academic awards and personal triumph of the students encouraging them to continue striving for excellence.
“To all students who will be awarded prizes today, congratulations. Your being here is the result of your perseverance and dedication and I firmly believe that you will continue to shine in your future endeavours.”
“You all have the potential to achieve great things,” Hon Tubuna said.
“Focus on your abilities, work on your weaknesses and most of all, maximise your God given potential. Nothing can replace dedication, effort and discipline. Track your progress and reflect on your journey so you stay true to your goals.”
Hon. Tubuna also acknowledged the resilience of students who had overcome personal hardships, including the loss of loved ones.
The Assistant Minister commended their ability to remain focused and determined, calling their perseverance a testament to their strength and character.
“For those of you who may not be receiving awards today, don’t be disheartened,” he said. “Your time will come. Be motivated, tell yourselves that you have the potential to do great things; set your goals, dream big and work hard towards your goals.”
Hon. Tubuna also thanked and congratulated the hardworking staff of Nakasi High School.
“Together, we are shaping the future of Fiji, and with the hard work and dedication of students, teachers, and families, we will continue to build a brighter tomorrow,” he concluded.
