His Excellency the President, Ratu Wiliame Katonivere joined members of the Chinese community at Suva’s Grand Pacific Hotel earlier this evening to celebrate the 74th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
Also in attendance was the Acting Prime Minister Hon.Viliame Gavoka, and cabinet ministers, members of the diplomatic corp, Mrs Sulueti Rabuka and distinguished guests.
Speaking on behalf of the Coalition Government and the people of Fiji, acting chief of protocol, Ms Rosa Dalituicama congratulated China on its anniversary, highlighting our strong diplomatic relations which was established in 1975.
“These relations have grown from strength to strength, over the years, with cooperation from various sectors,” she said.
“Our partnership has been guided by shared aspirations and common interests towards a comprehensive strategic partnership based on mutual trust and respect.
“Today’s evolving global environment calls for renewed partnership and solidarity as the only way forward to addressing global challenges,” she added.
She added that China remains a key partner for Fiji, in the achievements of our sustainable development aspirations, and in addressing the challenges of our time.
