FIJI AND ISRAEL TO EXPLORE PARLIAMENTARY COOPERATION-(20-09-2025)

Fiji and the State of Israel are exploring avenues to further strengthen cooperation between their Parliaments.
This was formally discussed in a bilateral meeting between Fiji’s Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka and the Speaker of the Israeli Knesset (Parliament), Hon. MK Amir Ohana, in Jerusalem yesterday (19 September 2025).
During the meeting, the Prime Minister shared with the Speaker some of Fiji’s parliamentary initiatives including programs pertaining to Youth and Women and efforts to increase women representation in Parliament.
Discussions also included Fiji’s regional priorities as encapsulated in the 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent and the Ocean of Peace Declaration, the latter being recently endorsed by the Pacific Leaders earlier this month.
Prime Minister Rabuka proposed reciprocal visits between members of the Knesset and the Fijian Parliament to exchanging knowledge and democratic practices.
He further underlined that Fiji values its longstanding friendship with Israel and looks forward to working closely together to strengthening peace and security, democracy, and development.
In his remarks, the Speaker of the Israeli Knesset thanked Fiji for its understanding of the situation Israel finds itself, and its ongoing efforts to upholding international law.
The Speaker expressed appreciation for Fiji’s stand with the truth and its efforts to seeking understanding first, respecting the principles pertaining to the sovereignty of States and their rights to self defence.
The Speaker especially commended Prime Minister Rabuka for his stand on peace and advancing regional and global initiatives that promote peace and stability.
He expressed Israel’s appreciation for Fiji’s friendship at such a time and reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to work with Fiji including deepening parliamentary cooperation.
Both leaders expressed confidence that the partnership between their Parliaments will open new opportunities to furthering understanding and cooperation.
