Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka this morning highlighted the critical role of customs administrators as gatekeepers of national borders and their contribution to national security, trade facilitation and economic prosperity.
While officiating the 2025 International Customs Day at the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service in Nasese, PM Rabuka asserted that customs administrations worldwide have play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless flow of trade while safeguarding our nations from potential threats.
“Today, we gather to acknowledge and celebrate the unwavering commitment of customs services in their mission to uphold efficiency, security, and prosperity,” he said.
“In an era where globalisation and technological advancements dictate the pace of trade, customs administrations must continuously adapt to remain competitive and relevant.
“Through the adoption of advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and data analytics, customs services have streamlined processes, reduced clearance times, and enhanced trade facilitation.”
Further, the PM commended the efforts of customs officers who tirelessly work to ensure that our ports and borders operate smoothly, facilitating legitimate trade while minimising disruptions.
As we celebrate International Customs Day, PM Rabuka urged that we reaffirm our commitment to supporting and empowering our customs administrations.
“The theme, “Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security, and Prosperity,” is not merely a slogan but a testament to the enduring dedication of customs officers around the world,” he added.
PM Rabuka also urged all stakeholders, including government agencies and the private sector, to collaborate with customs administrations, providing the necessary resources and support to fulfill their vital mandate.
“Together, we can create a future where efficiency, security, and prosperity are not just aspirations but tangible realities.”
The event concluded with the presentation of the World Customs Organization Certificate of Merit to deserving recipients, celebrating their exemplary contributions to customs operations in Fiji.
