It was a sea of blue at Albert Park in Suva today as proud Fijians from all walks of life came together to celebrate 55 years of independence under the theme “Peace, Unity and Progress for All.”
The colours of the ocean filled the park, with people dressed in shades of blue and waving the Noble Banner Blue high in the air – a true reflection of love, pride, and unity.
The highlight of the celebration came with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces’ 21-Gun Salute, which echoed across Suva to the cheers of the crowd, a moment of pride that stirred hearts and reminded everyone of Fiji’s enduring strength and sovereignty.
Acting President and Chief Justice Salesi Temo reviewed the parade and took the Presidential Salute, commending those who have led and continue to lead Fiji through unity and resilience.
“55 years of independence is a great achievement for Fiji. We pay due respect to our previous leaders and present leaders in shaping democracy in Fiji despite the challenges we faced on the way. We have to look after our children so that the future of tomorrow for Fiji is promising for all of us.”
“Thank you for your excellent performance that you’ve shown today,” Acting President Temo said.
Also present at the celebration were Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka and Mrs. Sulueti Rabuka, along with other Cabinet Members, Permanent Secretaries, members of the disciplined forces, and members of the diplomatic corps, who joined the nation in marking this historic milestone.
The air was filled with celebration, the music, the smiles, and the proud voices of Fijians rejoicing together as one people.
As the Noble Banner Blue fluttered proudly against the Suva sky, one thing was clear — Fiji’s heart beats stronger when we stand together in peace, unity, and progress.
