Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka met with the Vice-Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference of the Peoples Republic of China (PRC), His Excellency Mr. Leung Chun-yin last night.
Mr Leung is also the Chairman of the Board of GX Foundation, a non-profit charitable organisation headquartered in Hong Kong that provides global humanitarian medical and public health assistance in Belt and Road countries.
At last night’s meeting, the two leaders discussed potential areas for collaboration, particularly in the health sector, with a focus on dengue prevention and control.
Also present at the meeting were the acting Minister for Health and Medical Services Hon. Filimoni Vosarogo and the Assistant Minister Hon. Penioni Ravunawa.
In briefing the Prime Minister about the work of GX Foundation, Mr Leung highlighted their pilot project on dengue fever prevention and control, particularly in Timor-Leste.
The project supports over 300 medical facilities with equipment such as mosquito lamps, mosquito nets, sticky traps, and rapid dengue test kits, and includes community education initiatives.
It aims to reduce the incidence of dengue through a comprehensive approach encompassing prevention, protection, awareness, and early diagnosis.
For this, Mr Leung informed Prime Minister Rabuka that GX Foundation “stands ready to work with Fiji’s Ministry of Health on dengue fever prevention measures and strategies”.
In response, Prime Minister Rabuka thanked the Foundation for their outstanding work and looked forward to working with the organisation to support Fiji’s health sector.
He acknowledged their dedication and expressed appreciation for their ongoing efforts to improve the wellbeing of people they serve around the world.
