The Fiji Learning Institute for Public Service (FLIPS) marked an important milestone today with the official opening of its new gymnasium.
The project reflects the Government’s renewed commitment to wellness in the public service.
Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka inaugurated the gym where he emphasised that being healthy is not just a personal goal, but a national responsibility.
“When we talk about nation-building and service delivery, we think of strategic frameworks, infrastructure and policies. But none of these succeed without a strong and well-supported workforce – you, the civil servants. You are the beating heart of Government operations, and that heart must stay healthy and strong.”
The Prime Minister highlighted that the new initiative is aligned with the Government’s Strategic Framework for Civil Service Reform, which places human capital development and workforce wellbeing at its core.
“Wellness is now recognised not just as a Human Resources initiative but as a key driver of effective service delivery,” he added.
The new facility sits at the heart of FLIPS’ “Wellness Wednesday” programme, a weekly moment of renewal in the work-week.
The gymnasium is for all civil servants.
In encouraging the wellness of the civil servants, Hon. Rabuka emphasised the importance of healthy eating habits and lifestyles.
As the doors to the new facility swing open, the Prime Minister challenged all civil servants saying, “ Make wellness not just a Wednesday thing, but an everyday thing. Whether it’s a treadmill session, yoga after work, or a friendly fitness challenge among colleagues, make it fun, make it social, and above all, make it consistent”.
“Fiji needs us to perform at our utmost level best. Fiji needs us fit, focused, and always ready to serve,” he concluded.
