Minister for Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management Hon. Mosese Bulitavu led a Ministry delegation to pay a courtesy visit to Hon. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka in Suva yesterday afternoon. The meeting provided an important platform for the Hon. Prime Minister to receive a comprehensive briefing on the Ministry’s ongoing and planned rural developments, aimed at improving the livelihoods of rural and maritime communities.
During the discussions, Acting Permanent Secretary Mr. Mitieli Cama outlined key rural development programmes currently being implemented, highlighting infrastructure upgrades, water and sanitation projects, access road improvements, and community capacity-building efforts. He emphasized the Government’s focus on inclusive growth, ensuring that remote and underserved communities benefit equitably from national development.
The delegation also discussed strategic priorities for the upcoming financial period, including scaling up climate-resilient infrastructure, enhancing market access for rural farmers, supporting youth and women-led enterprises, and strengthening partnerships with development agencies. Particular attention was given to potential high-impact projects that could drive economic activity while improving essential services in rural areas.
The delegation comprised Assistant Minister Hon. Jovesa Vocea, Acting Deputy Secretary Mr. Josefa Navuku, and the Divisional Commissioners, who each contributed insights from their respective divisions regarding current challenges, progress on flagship projects, and opportunities for improved service delivery.
