There are plans in place to address water issues in Korovuto Settlement on the outskirts of the Jetset town of Nadi.
Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka visited the settlement yesterday, highlighting the need for proper water supply in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the residents, Mr Tailasa Mavoa explained that most of them have been facing water issues since moving to the area more than 13 years ago.
“There are about 80 families living here and we have been relying on boreholes for water supply,” he said.
“It’s unsafe for us to drink water from the borehole as it contains white residue believed to be calcium hardeness. This poses health risks to us. We continue to clean our water storage but it is quite difficult to remove the white substance.
“Despite numerous attempts for assistance to relevant authorities, we still haven’t received positive results, but we are hopeful that the Coalition Government will assist us with our water supply.
“Today, we thank the Prime Minister for visiting us and witnessing firsthand what we experience daily.”
In response, PM Rabuka stated that the authorities concerned will work towards addressing the issue, with plans afoot to connect the residents to Fiji’s water reticulation system.
