PM RABUKA MEETS FRENCH PRESIDENT AT UNGA80-(24-09-2025)

Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka today met with the French President, His Excellency Mr Emmanuel Macron on the margins of the UNGA80 in New York.
The brief encounter reaffirmed Fiji and France’s commitment to strengthening their partnership in areas of mutual interest.
The two leaders met at the BBNJ or High Seas Treaty side event at the General Assembly.
Last Friday, the BBNJ Treaty crossed the ratification threshold, thus moving it from agreement to its entry into force.
As part of its broader commitment to ocean governance and the protection of marine resources, Fiji has consistently championed the treaty, recognising the Pacific’s deep reliance on a healthy ocean for its people’s livelihoods, security, and sustainable development.
Fiji continues to advocate for ambitious global action to ensure the equitable and sustainable use of marine biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction.
