In a move to further strengthen government services in the Northern Division, Prime Minister Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka officially opened the new Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry Office in Labasa on Friday 21 March, 2025.
The opening of the new office underscores the Coalition Government’s commitment to fostering inclusivity, supporting multi-ethnic communities, and enhancing the sustainability of Fiji’s sugar industry.
In his official address, PM Rabuka emphasised the importance of the ministry, considering the multi-ethnic nature of the nation’s communities and the development of our sugar industry.
PM Rabuka asserted that the government will continue to acknowledge the contribution of various ethnic communities to Fiji’s development from colonial origins to its current status.
“We are morally obligated, to look after the less fortunate or the disadvantaged groups in our nation. We will continue to do it, as long as the Coalition Government is in place,” remarked the PM.
The office, located at Macuata House, will facilitate policy implementation, community engagement, sugar industry development and administrative support.
The event was attended by sugarcane farmers, business owners, multi-ethnic groups, and government representatives.
