Prime Minister Honourable Sitiveni Rabuka received a courtesy call from the High Commissioner of the Republic of Ghana to Fiji, His Excellency, Samuel Yao Kumah on Tuesday (05:08:2025) where he expressed confidence in increased bilateral cooperation and engagements between the two nations.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister highlighted the significance of exchanging ideas and practices with nations like Ghana, in building the robustness of Fiji’s tourism products and brands.
“As part of the great African continent, Ghana’s specific varieties of crops and selected wildlife could be adapted to provide colour and scope in our tourism industry. Fiji will continue to face increasing competition from similar tourism brands and destinations in our region. Exchanging ideas and practices with distant nations like Ghana will help build the robustness of Fiji’s tourism products and brands,” Hon. Rabuka stated.
The Prime Minister said he looked forward to further engagement through the Missions in Canberra to explore potential areas of bilateral cooperation.
Reflecting on the two countries membership in the United Nations, the Commonwealth and the African Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) group of States, Prime Minister Rabuka asserted that it demonstrated our common priorities and shared interests.
“Fiji and Ghana both share a mutual commitment to advocate for more ambitious global climate actions, demonstrated through our memberships, statements and national positions in these platforms.”
He said multilateralism has always proven to be an effective tool for addressing global challenges, especially for small island developing states like Fiji and Ghana.
“It is encouraging to note that our collective response as a community of nations, including our two countries, remains committed to the rules-based order and all its values.”
In his response, High Commissioner Kumah expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for the opportunity to meet and discuss potential areas for meaningful cooperation.
He added that Ghana looks forwards to working with Fiji in advancing shared priorities and interests.
