Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka met with members of the Fiji diaspora last night, most of whom were Fijian students studying in various universities across China.
Upon his arrival at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Beijing, PM Rabuka was accorded a traditional ceremony of welcome by the students.
Following the traditional formalities, the PM expressed his gratitude to the students for preserving their culture and traditions, even though they are far from home.
He took the opportunity to emphasise the importance of education and the crucial role the students play as ambassadors of Fiji abroad.
“Represent our nation well and please don’t worry about us back home. We are surviving and progressing. Focus on your studies and excel in your respective academic pursuits,” he urged.
The Prime Minister recognised the challenges of studying far from home and expressed his admiration for the students’ resilience and dedication.
“Congratulations on your achievements and know that we are here for you.”
In his closing remarks, PM Rabuka thanked the Government of the Peoples Republic of China for its ongoing support in the education of Fijian students and cooperation in other areas of mutual interest.
