Let me first begin by acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the land on which we stand today, ki Raviravi na Turaga na Tui Tabanivoniwai.
I pay my respects to their Chiefs, past and present, as well as emerging leaders and I acknowledge their enduring role within the Vanua, we are grateful for their enduring stewardship of the Vanua and the ocean that make this occasion possible.
Celebrating the 2026 Fiji Pro
- It is my distinct privilege to join you at the conclusion of the 2026 Fiji Pro.
- Over the past 11 days, Cloudbreak has once again demonstrated why it is recognised as one of the most powerful and spectacular waves in the world. It has provided a fitting stage for an exceptional display of courage, skill, discipline and sporting excellence.
- To every competitor, I congratulate you. You have tested yourselves against the power of the ocean and alongside some of the world’s finest surfers. Whether you leave Fiji with a trophy, a personal milestone or valuable experience for the next stage of your career, each of you has contributed to a memorable World Surf League Championship Tour event.
- I also acknowledge the outstanding women and men who have competed in this year’s Fiji Pro. Your commitment and achievements inspire young people in Fiji and across the Pacific to pursue sport with confidence, discipline and ambition.

- To our award recipients and champions, I extend the warm congratulations of the Government and the people of Fiji.
- Your performances have reached audiences around the world and remind us that excellence is earned through preparation, resilience, respect and the determination to perform under pressure.
- May this achievement be a proud milestone in your careers and a memory you carry wherever your journey takes you.
Fiji on the World Stage
- The Fiji Pro is more than a surfing competition. When the world watches Cloudbreak, it also sees Fiji: our people, our culture, our natural beauty and our place within the Blue Pacific.
- For Government, this event is an important strategic partnership. It promotes Fiji as a world-class tourism and sporting destination, supports local businesses and livelihoods, and strengthens our ability to host major international events.
- We welcome the World Surf League’s continued confidence in Fiji and its commitment to this partnership through to 2029. This partnership creates opportunities not only for visitors and the tourism industry, but also for the next generation of Fijian surfers, sports professionals and young people who aspire to represent Fiji on the global stage.
- Government will continue to support sport, tourism and youth development as connected priorities. Major events such as the Fiji Pro show what can be achieved when international partnerships are matched by local talent, professional delivery and the warmth of Fijian hospitality.
Recognising Our Partners and Host Community
- This event would not be possible without the many people who work behind the scenes. I thank the World Surf League, Corona Cero, event officials, volunteers, safety personnel, tourism operators, sponsors, media partners and all those who have contributed to the success of this event.
- I offer particular appreciation to the people of Tavarua and the surrounding communities for their hospitality, support and stewardship. Your contribution ensures that visitors experience not only world-class surfing, but the genuine spirit of Fiji.
Protecting Our Ocean
- As we celebrate the Fiji Pro, we must also recognise what makes it possible: Our Ocean.
- The ocean is central to Fiji’s identity, culture, food security, economy and way of life. It is the stage for this competition, but it is also a precious resource that sustains our communities and future generations.
- We therefore have a shared responsibility to protect our marine environment, safeguard our reefs and promote responsible tourism. The continued success of events such as the Fiji Pro depends on healthy oceans, resilient ecosystems and respect for the communities that care for them.
Closing and Presentation of Awards
- To all our competitors, congratulations on an outstanding Fiji Pro. Thank you for bringing your talent, determination and respect for the ocean to Fiji.
- As you depart, I hope you take with you memorable waves, lasting friendships and a deeper connection with our islands and our people.
