The President of the Republic of Fiji, His Excellency Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu, hosted a reception at State House this evening in honor of the returning soldiers of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) 1st Battalion, who served under the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI).
The deployment forms part of Fiji’s longstanding contribution to United Nations peacekeeping operations, reflecting the nation’s enduring commitment to global peace, stability, and international cooperation.
The RFMF has a proud history of service in peacekeeping missions worldwide, with Fijian soldiers widely recognized for their professionalism, discipline, and resilience in demanding operational environments.
On behalf of the government and the people of Fiji, President Lalabalavu acknowledged the soldiers for their dedication, commitment, and sacrifices during their tour of duty in Iraq.
Also present at the event were former Heads of State Major-General (Ret’d) Jioji Konusi Konrote and Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, the Prime Minister, Hon. Sitiveni Rabuka, Members of Cabinet, former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Members of the Diplomatic Corps, civil society representatives and the RFMF senior leadership.
